I think that this is the special Galaxy Coin Company's Rings of Saturn toning. image

Is it raw, or (gasp!) what flavor of plastic is it in?

I'm leaning toward I like it.

I know it's AT but shoot it's definitely some kind of art. Not sure what genre to put it in though.

I'm with BECOKA on this one.

Sure, it's rampant AT, but I kinda like it. image

If anybody likes wild AT stuff like that with psychedelic color, then boy, do I have a proof Franklin half for you! image

Edit: whoa. It's holdered. That was unexpected.

It's funny. It's hard to get an original old gold coin holdered if it's been lightly cleaned or has some handling marks, but these designer coins are in all the top TPG holders. In fairness to TPG, perhaps the coin was less dramatically toned when slabbed and turned in the holder.

It's sort of a cross between one of those 3-D puzzles you stare at and some motor oil spilled in a driveway.
  • Interestingly, the colors on the OP coin do not follow the usual thin film progression sequence. I am not familiar with the packaging on American eagles, or what effect it might have had on toning, but if I saw this coloration on a Morgan (or other classic silver type), I would be highly skeptical.

Here is a coin with thin, well-defined rainbow bands that displays precisely the expected color sequence:

I don't know what made me laugh harder, seeing the coin after reading the description, or seeing the coin in a PCGS holder.image
  • To me, that coin is slightly putrid. The yellowish color is what we called "old gold" on baseball and football jerseys when I was at a school with "old gold" and crimson as the school colors. My Mom referred to the uniform color as being "baby-poop yellow".

I have seen many wildly toned ASE's in PCGS plastic??? what's up with that? Clearly AT, I haven't seen these in NGC plastic, but just because I haven't seen them doesn't mean they aren't out there. I guess this is market acceptable? image

Don't confuse bag toning with other types of toning.

I sorta like the coin. It probably looks quite a bit more impressive in hand.

I guess I should send mine in... I still go back and forth on whether or not it's legit toning.

Heh, everybody likes it even though they say AT. Might as well go buy a bag of colored marbles and play with them with all you friends. It amazes me that folks just wanna see CULLA no matter how it got there. But, PCGS likes it, the astute folks on the board like it, and as I learned on here (which is a load) "Who cares if it's AT, if you think it's pretty and you like it is all that matters. " So we're once again talking bout a hunk of bullion here with some "Culla." Yeah, I know it's almost pure silver and these things tone fast. I like Sunnywoods coin, a true banded rainbow Morgan. A REAL coin.image

Not AT. I have one that toned just like that sitting in my file cabinet -- .999 Silver tones very easily. It may not slab now, as PCGS is bagging any toning that does not look "mainstream".
